Goodnight, god bless

Ivy "Scorpio Number 1,the bruiser" Boughey
November 11th 1920 - November 23rd 2007.

Aged 87

My nan "Scorpio number 1" as she always used to call herself, Ivy Boughey. Passed away. It was something she always used to say, basically as our birthday's were only a week apart, I have to admit that I thought that it was getting a little old, but have to admit I'll miss being called "Scorpio number 2" there was something comforting about it.

Over the past couple of years her health had deteriorated, and over that time it had been 1 step forward 2 steps back. I have to admit that this is was also one of the reasons I had wanted to return to the UK and I'm glad I was in the country when she went. I'll never forget doing the robot with her at my sisters wedding, shooting toy pistols at cardboard cutouts on Christmas morning when I was a kid (and when I was 25).

Never a hair out of place as one of my sisters said, anyway, my family all wanted to put something in the paper in memory and wanted to share, check out some of my families rhyming skills.

After all the hype, all the anticipation, all the promotion, all the bruises, and the parties... It's finally here, come on by now you must all know what I'm talking about, since I left Ubisoft Montreal, my excitement has turned from developer to fan. Maybe because I knew what was coming.

Interestingly though the reviews have been mixed, (Gamespot, 1Up, Game Informer and Eurogamer) which in hindsight I suppose is to be expected, the Marmite of gaming someone suggested to me, you either love it or hate it. Personally I'm really happy how the combat has turned out, and now I've seen it in the finished product with all the presentation around it, and I've taken a step back and I'm really pleased with how things came together. All the decisions that seemed so hard to work out over my time on the project seem so obvious now, how could it of gone any other way?

A highlight from just last week, was when I caught some of the fighters from the UFC in an interview saying how much they were enjoying it. I was loving the fact they picked our a couple of the moves we had put so much effort into.

Anyway, the game is out now, and I suppose that it's time to move on to the next challenge. AC was one hell of an experience.

Singing into my 30's

No updates for a while, and now hopefully they will start coming in again, as I've finally gotten my internet connection back, so I can upload photos and make these entry's at least look interesting.

So I had wanted to find a way of turning 30 but do something memorable, by suggesting we check out the new private Karaoke rooms that have just opened in Bristol, I seemed like the only one that was up for it, but with Saima's powers of persuasion and the fact that it was my birthday and I would of thrown my toys out the pram everyone agreed to join me in a night of 80's power ballad's.

So we lined up the shots, got a couple of beers down us and within no time Duncan had loaded up the selections, and I was knocking out "Livin' on a Prayer" much to Saima's amusement. Taking the lesson I learnt from Dean in Montreal, that it's not about the song it's about the performance, everyone seemed to gradually come over to the idea that this was fun and not as humiliating as they might of first thought.

From what I remember I had a fantastic night... I think, well I know that I had a sore throat for quite a few days afterwards so I'm taking that as a good sign.

Anyway here are some more pictures of the night, the camera was taken out of my hands so I have no control over the 'action' shots.
